KSA Participates in Virtual Regeneron ISEF 2020

With 20-Student Team

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and the Ministry of Education, are participating for the fourteenth year in the REGENERON International Science and Engineering Fair, REGENERON ISEF2020, which was virtually launched today due to the Corona pandemic, and will continue until May 22nd.



 KSA is participating in 20 scientific projects for the country's 20 talented students who qualified to participate in REGENERON ISEF2020. Such 20 students were selected from among about 67,000 students who presented their projects and researches to participate in the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity (Ibdaa 2020) and went through nomination stages, of which 151 projects that participated in the Olympiad finalists have qualified.




 

Mawhiba has subjected the Kingdom's participating team throughout the year to various qualification programs for the competition before it was virtually transferred following the Corona pandemic; to ensure the safety of the participants.


 

Kingdom's participating team members shall display video clips demonstrating their scientific projects to present, as this year's event focuses on various scientific speakers and lectures without holding a competition nor judging projects submitted.




Kingdom's participating team shall include:

Woud Al-Sadoun, Dima Al-Melhem, Aseel Bukhari, Shouwq Madani, Noura Al-Omari, Raneem Al-Mansour, Lama Jarad, Rand Al-Dossary, Ibrahim Al-Dulijan, Bashir Al-Dajani and Abdullah Al-Senan from the Eastern Education Department, Youssuf Al-Rabiah, Youssuf Al-Tuwaijri, Rakan Al-Rumayyan, Munira Al-Brahim and Modi Al-Marzouqi from the Riyadh Education Department, Nuran Alem from the Makkah Education Department, Thara Al-Dabbagh and Lana Al-Abbasi from the Jeddah Education Department and Layan Al-Hamashi from the Hail Education Department.


 


This year's fair includes topics on science and technology and a series of paintings and presentations on the Covid-19 disease caused by the emerging coronavirus. There shall be no judging of the projects, yet it shall only be presented by qualified students.

The REGENERON ISEF2020 enables all those interested in science and technology of all ages to attend practical sessions presented by several inspiring speakers, among of whom is Francis Arnold; Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry 2018, Vint Cerf; Vice President of Google and founder of the Internet, and Cato Lawrensen; winner of the National Medal of Technology and innovation.

 


It is noteworthy that the Mawhiba Foundation presented, during the Intel ISEF 2019 Fair, special prizes for the tenth year in a row, totaling 14 prizes worth $ 90,000. Such prizes were awarded to projects in the fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Machine Learning in chemistry or environmental applications, and Machine Learning in Bioengineering applications, Robotics Innovations, and Smart Solutions in Cybersecurity.


The REGENERON ISEF is the largest science fair competition in the field of pre-university scientific research and attracts nearly 1,800 participants from about 80 countries around the world.
