The Winter Gathering Concludes with the Participation of Elite Gifted Students

“The undiscovered gifted student is like a space shuttle when it is on earth”, Al-Mathami.

620 students from among the most gifted and creative students in the Kingdom completed their training at the Winter Gathering organized by “Mawhiba” Foundation in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education as a part of Mawhiba International Olympiad Program.


 
In his speech at the virtual closing ceremony of the Winter Gathering, HE. Dr. Saud Al-Mathami, the Secretary-General of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba”, said to the students: “Hope strengthens aspirations, patience, endurance, faith and commitment to continue their way to lead the future and humanity.”

 
He added that the undiscovered gifted student is like a space shuttle when it is on earth. It is useless and has no benefit, but in the space, it reveals the universe and brings tremendous information that benefits all humanity and so is the gifted student when we invest in his/her giftedness and mental abilities. Al-Mathami called the students to have an ambitious and comprehensive vision for the world, as they are privileged, distinguished and initiative.

 
His Excellency the Secretary-General praised the role of parents, indicating that they led their children to brilliance and creativity. He stressed that “Mawhiba” stands by gifted students and their parents to nurture them and help them reach the highest levels of nurturing, empowerment, genius and excellence.

 
In 10 years Mawhiba students have been awarded 400 medals and certificates. Moreover, “Mawhiba” with these gifted and talented students have succeeded in the past year alone in attaining 57 international and global achievements with its strategic partners from leading national institutions.
His Excellency the Secretary-General of Mawhiba stated that the Foundation has succeeded, for the first time, in enrolling students from 8 new regions within the Kingdom, in addition to appointing trainers - 86 % from Saudi Arabia and that “Mawhiba” aims now for 100 %.

 
The activities of the Winter Gathering, which lasted 12 days, during which the participating students received scientific training for more than 760 hours by an elite group of Saudi and foreign experts and efficient people to train and prepare the scientific teams in Mathematics, science, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics. This is as a part of Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, in preparation for selecting the scientific teams in which qualified students will participate in several scientific educational forums over two years to select the teams which represent the Kingdom in 17 international Olympiads, to be held in the summer of 2021 and 2022. 

 
The students have qualified to participate in the Winter Gathering out of thousands of students who were distinguished in the Bebras Mawhiba competition, Kangaroo Mawhiba competition, and Mawhoob competition, in addition to their attendance to the main courses in which they have learned intensive scientific materials.

 
The Winter Gathering is the first fruit of the training forums organized by "Mawhiba" Foundation annually within Mawhiba International Olympiad Program and in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and support from their partners; King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, King Saud University and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. The Gathering is the launching pad for the first-level students towards achieving the dream of representing the country in international competitions in science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics. It aims to enhance the confidence in the national ability to compete globally, raise community awareness of the importance of scientific materials, develop the spirit of scientific competition, and contribute to building a creative generation capable of dealing with a scientific language enabling the competition with the international students.

 
Annually, the “Mawhiba” Foundation organizes, in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and many other partners, Mawhiba International Olympiad Program in which Saudi students, before representing the Kingdom in the International Olympics, receive a training with several stages, during which the most distinguished students were selected to continue their participation in the Program. The Program lasts more than two years, during which each student receives more than 3,000 training hours, preparing him/her for the international participations.
