Mawhiba Awarded 4 Grand Awards at Energy to Students around the World under its Sponsorship

Saudi Arabia wins 8 international awards and surpasses developed industrial countries in ISEF 2021

​​The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba" and the Ministry of Education, won, for the fifteenth consecutive year, 5 grand awards and 3 special awards during its participation in the Regeneron ISEF 2021 that was held in the United States from May 3 to 21, 2021.


The grand awards were granted to: Mansour Al-Marzouki who ranked the second position in the field of energy: Materials and Sustainable Design for his project "Designing a Self-Charging Super Capacitor by Light", Rasha Al-Qahtani who ranked the third position in the field of Social and Behavioral Sciences for her project “An Innovative Video Game Feature for Psychological Diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Adolescence", Lana Abu Jamil ranked the fourth position in the field of computational and informational biology for her project "Computer Prediction of the Usability of a Special Compound as an Inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2Virus with Least Side Effects", Abdullah Al-Shanqiti who ranked the fourth position in the field of energy:

Materials and Sustainable Design for his project “Nickel Cobaltite Electrode for Low-Price and Renewable Method Hydrogen Fuel Production", and Arwa Niazi who ranked the 4th position in Materials Science for her project “Manufacturing a Sun-Responsive Super Capacitor Using Quantum Carbon Dots.

The Kingdom also won 3 special awards in the ISEF 2021 international competition by: Ruby Rajab, Riyadh education department in the field of medical engineering. The first special prize is presented by University of Arizona, for the Ruby's qualitative project “Improving a Tool for communicating with the Groups of the Hearing Impaired and the Sense of Music through an Advanced Tactile Glove". She also received a scholarship from the American University. The two other special awards are presented by Mawhiba to Mansour Al-Marzouki, and Lama Al-Qahtani, from Saudi Arabia.

 
Therefore, the Kingdom's number of awards at ISEF 2021 is 83 awards, including 53 grand awards and 30 special awards, as its participation in the exhibition began in 2007.


All members of the Saudi science and engineering team also received a special award for each of them, presented by the computer research company, WOLFRAM.



The rounds for arbitrating the projects participating in ISEF 2021, were held remotely, via video technology, from May 3 to 6, 2021, and the exhibition activities were held from May 16 to 21, 2021.

The Kingdom competed in the grand prizes of ISEF 2021, with a team of 30 students, who submitted 30 scientific projects in several fields, by ten projects more than the previous year.
 

King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba" sponsored the energy field at the Regeneron ISEF 2021, and the winning projects in the energy fields related to materials and sustainable design. During its sponsorship, "Mawhiba" presented grand awards to the winners of the first position for the best projects in the energy field.

The support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the world's innovators at ISEF 2021 stems from the Kingdom's vision 2030 and its awareness of the important Saudi role as a primary source of energy in the world, and its quest for continued sustainable development by preserving energy sources and encouraging the innovators and gifted students around the world to develop projects and innovations in the field of renewable and sustainable energy, and enhance their knowledge, skills and expertise. This is for developing the projects that allow the preservation of these resources for future generations. Thus reflects the Kingdom's vision and mission by making the innovation a sustainable way to invest in human capabilities. As well as to transform these capabilities into positive energies of high quality productivity, and have added value in the world, and the future of humanity. Especially as the world is witnessing an increasing trend towards producing more renewable energy, with expectations that the renewable energy will represent 40% of the planet's energy by 2040.Mawhiba has increased the number of special awards presented under its name this year 2021 in the fields of STEM. These awards are cash and grants for the participation in Mawhiba Universal Enrichment Program. They were granted to: Franklin Lopez and Isabella Rodriguez from Panama, Mansour Al-Marzouki and Lama Al-Qahtani from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Maria Eleni Patatudi and Chariklia Muritaki from Greece, Simon Berleki from Poland, Linao Jiang from China, and Siddharth Barthloar, Leo Wailonis, Hrgisal Bergarh, Charlotte McAvoy, Ansh Sharma, Rohan Kulkarni, Mihir Paviskar, Andy Phong and Suryapan Mohapatra from the United States of America.

It is worth noting that King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba" presented, during the eleven years, special awards at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), totaling 103 awards to 121 male and female students from 20 countries.


The Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair “ISEF 2021" will be held virtually in the United States of America, with the participation of more than 1,800 students from more than 70 countries. The Kingdom competed for the grand awards with 30 scientific projects for 30 male and female students from various education departments, representing the participating Saudi team.
