The Saudi Chemistry Team wins 4 International Awards at Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (MChO) 2021


The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba” and the Ministry of Education, won 4 international awards at Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad 2021, which was held remotely due to Corona pandemic, from 20 to 26 April, and its results were announced today at the Russian capital, Moscow.


The four students who won bronze medals, are: Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Hadlaq, from  Al-Rowad International Schools, Riyadh education department, Muhammad Rashid Al-Hadithi, from International Schools in Riyadh, Riyadh education department, Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al-Juaid, from Manarat Al-Khobar National Schools, Alsharqiya education department, and Saeed Sultan Baghdadi, from Al-Falah Secondary Schools, Makkah Al-Mukarramah education department.


Moreover , the Kingdom has won 18 awards in Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad throughout the years. This is the Kingdom's ninth participation in Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, and the number of medals won by the Saudi teams is 408 in the fields of science during their annual participation in 17 international and regional scientific Olympiads.The Kingdom was represented in the current edition of the Olympiad by a team of 6 students from different education departments. The team consisted of:  Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Hadlaq, Muhammad Rashid Al-Hadithi, Taiba Ali Al-Hamoud, Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al-Juaid, Saeed Sultan Baghdadi, and Ali Abdul-Wahed Al-Yousef. King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" indicated that the Saudi team's award balance in Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was 3 silver and 15 bronze medals. “Mawhiba” assured that the members of Saudi chemistry team were nominated after going through a number of exams, standards, training camps and intensive training over two years. During which they received more than 12,200 training hours, in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).


It is noted that the achievement made by the Kingdom's students comes as a part of a complete journey and an integrated system in “Mawhiba” Foundation, called “The Talented Student's Journey”. It includes several initiatives; such as: Mawhiba Classes, academic and research enrichment summer programs, mentorship, innovation and enrollment programs in elite international universities. These programs are provided after school and in the summer.​

​Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad is the largest scientific competition in chemistry in terms of the level of questions and the method of the competition. Its main language is Russian, where the questions are translated into English. The competition consists of two tests: theoretical and practical, and it has been held for more than 53 years, and about 30 developed countries in this field have participated in it.

It is indicated that Mawhiba is the first foundation in the world to provide comprehensive fostering for students, from their identification to empowerment. It has succeeded in identifying more than 150,000 male and female students from different regions of the Kingdom. It provides quality programs for them. This experience has become a focus of international attention. Many countries started to imitate Mawhiba experience, benefit from it, apply it, and make partnerships with it to benefit from its programs, vision, orientation and method of work.

Last week, Mawhiba announced, under the patronage of His Highness, the Minister of Culture, Prince Badr Bin Farhan Al Saud, one of the most important partnerships reflected in the Arab world with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). They have signed an agreement to launch the "Arab Talented" initiative, which aims at identifying the gifted in the Arab world and preparing leaders and innovators among the Arab youth, foster and empower them.​

Mawhiba has recently ranked the first position in Khalifa Award for Education, which is the forefront of specialized educational awards locally and regionally. It aims at spreading and consolidating a culture of excellence and identifying the creators for its fourteenth session 2021, in the category of foundations, for innovative educational projects and programs at the level of the Arab world, where "Mawhiba" participated in its Classes program.​
