The Kingdom Ranks Second Position in Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad 2021

The Kingdom Mathematics Team wins 6 international awards after competing with 22 countries

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made a pioneering national achievement after ranking the second position in Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, ahead of developed countries in the competition such as France, Bulgaria, Turkey, Serbia and Indonesia. Therefore, the Saudi mathematics team is winning 6 international prizes (3 gold, one silver and two bronze) in the such Olympiad 2021 in its ninth consecutive participation in the competition. Last year 2020, the Kingdom won a gold medal, four silver medals, and a bronze medal. The Kingdom competed with its team of 6 students with 134 students representing 22 countries. Therefore, the Kingdom's number of awards in this competition is 47. 

This achievement is an extension of a series of scientific achievements in the international competitions in which the Kingdom participates. It is the fruit of comprehensive efforts and complementary relationship between King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, the Ministry of Education and their strategic partners, led by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology “KAUST”. This is for contributing to preparing a generation of students to compete globally, represent the Kingdom in international competitions, and make achievements, which in turn will be reflected on the Kingdom’s position in its competitive indicators, and the development of the educational system.

The gold medals were granted to Muhammad Al-Dubaisi and Mahdi Al-Baik, from Eastern area education department and Hadi Al-Eithan, from Al-Ahsa education department. the three students have previously joined Mawhiba programs since 2016, and during their training career with “Mawhiba” in many camps, they received nearly 9000 training hours, in addition to their joining “Mawhiba classes” which target a number of public and private schools with distinguished specifications in terms of infrastructure, teaching methods, assessment methods, learning methods, teacher qualification and training. In addition to the curricula approved by the Ministry of Education, in which the additional internationally approved Mawhiba curricula are added in the field of teaching gifted and creative students. 

The silver medal was granted to Muhammad Rabie Hafez, from AlMadinah education department. This is his first participation in an international competition. He is one of the students who have undergone “Mawhiba” programs since 2017, and received more than 3000 training hours over the course of 4 years.

Bronze medals were also granted to Abdul Ilah Altif, from Eastern areaeducation department, while this is his first participation in an international competition. He is one of the students who has undergone Mawhiba programs since 2017 for more than 5 years, during which he received 4000 hours of training.

Moath Al-Qahtani from Riyadh education department, this is Moaz’sfirst participation in an international competition, after undergoing Mawhiba programs since 2018 and over 4 years, during which he received 650 hours of training. He also joined Mawhiba Classes.

This participation is a part of Mawhiba International Olympiad program, which is held in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education, which makes the students available to attend the training camps throughout the year. This program is also one of 20 different initiatives of advanced curricula and enrichment programs, in the fields of science, engineering and health, provided by Mawhiba for gifted students annually on a journey through which the gifted students pass through several stages, to explore and enhance their tendencies, and empower and invest in them with its local and international partners.

The Kingdom’s participation in Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad​began in 2013, when the Saudi team won 47 medals during its participation in the competition, including 8 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 22 bronze medals. Therefore, the Kingdom’s number of international achievements made by gifted students is 435. These achievements are results of a long journey of training and preparation, during which the students attended programs and camps held by “Mawhiba” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and its strategic partners. The students trained on various skills that enable them to represent the Kingdom in an honorable manner, make achievements and successes, compete with students of developed countries in scientific fields, and surpass and beat them.​​
