Mawhiba:105 Gifted Students as Ambassadors in the Most Prestigious Universities in the World

NEWS2021AUG8.jpgAbout 105 Saudi high school students are subject to the qualitative international program "Mawhiba Ambassadors", which is organized by King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" with the most prestigious international universities. The Foundation supports students financially and morally in all phases of the program, starting from their registration to the completion of the program.

The program is held in a number of prestigious universities in both of the US and the UK; at the forefront of which are Brown University, Yale University, Northwestern University, Columbia University, University of California (San Diego), Johns Hopkins University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Tufts University. Students are usually provided with full accommodation within the dormitories of the best universities, but due to the current circumstances related to the Corona pandemic, students participate remotely in “Mawhiba Ambassadors”.

In addition to the academic, scientific and research knowledge aspect in the fields of science and engineering, the programs include activities aimed at developing the skills of the outstanding personality in all aspects. The program is executed during summer vacations, and its duration ranges from two to six weeks, depending on the type of program. Programs are selected based on criteria, including the type of program, scientific materials, location, the chronological age of the program, and its experience in the field of gifted education. This year, students were selected from among the elite of gifted and creative Saudi students who applied for this program.

Mawhiba says: "This is an enriching experience for school students, as they are intermingled with gifted students of the same age group from all over the world, enrich their scientific and verbal knowledge, and participate in the programs of the world's elite and highest-ranked universities. This helps students determine their scientific field approach in the future, highlights national abilities, prepares students to support the Kingdom’s transformation into a knowledge society, enhances students’ communication with international universities, opens promising prospects for them to continue studying and learning, and develops their own personal skills.

The statement indicated that the total number of students who participated in the "Mawhiba Ambassadors" program from 2011 to 2020, reached 1131 male and female students.

The statement continued: "Mawhiba Foundation, through Mawhiba Ambassadors, offers a number of international programs in cooperation with a selection of the world's most prestigious and top-ranked universities, to enhance the human capital of the Kingdom, enrich students scientifically and linguistically, and assist them in determining their scientific fields in the future".

It is noteworthy that "Mawhiba Ambassadors" is one of 20 different programs in the fields of science and engineering, to which Mawhiba students are subject according to their grades and abilities, and according to their completion of other programs they are subject to. These programs qualify each student in the aspect or field in which they excel, identify, develop and enable their abilities, starting from identifying their distinguished mental abilities through the National Program for Gifted Identification till their breakthrough and sponsorship by programs, training and rehabilitation, and thus empowering them in the areas in which they prove efficient and competent. Moreover, Mawhiba offers its twenty initiatives to gifted and creative students in public education during or at the end of the working day, during the weekend, or during summer vacations.
