Mawhiba Secretary-General: “This Brilliance and Accomplishment Achieved with God Almighty’s Grace and then with the Support of Wise Leadership to Continue the Path Towards Achieving Targets of Kingdom's Vision 2030”

The Kingdom maintained the lead in the Gulf Mathematics and Physics Olympiad since its establishment with 7 gold medals and 3 silver ones.​

Saudi Arabia maintained its lead in the ranking of participating countries in the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad (GMO2022) and the Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022), held in Dammam City over 5 days, hosted by the Ministry of Education, and organized by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS).

Members of the Saudi Mathematics Team participating in the competition won 4 gold medals and two silver medals at the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad (GMO2022). They won the first place for the eighth consecutive year out of 42 students from 7 Gulf countries, namely: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the Republic of Yemen.

All members of the Saudi Physics Team participating in the Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022) achieved three gold medals and one silver medal among 28 male and female students, representing the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Yemen.

HE. Dr. Saud Al-Mathami, Secretary-General of King Abdulaziz & His Companions Foundation for Giftedness & Creativity extended his highest congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense - may God preserve them - for this Gulf national achievement of the Kingdom, in which it maintained its lead in the Gulf Mathematics and Physics Olympiad since the establishment of the competition, and for their generous and unlimited support to the nation's talents, to harvest gold medals and take up coronation platforms in all the forums in which they participate.

Al-Mathami said: “This brilliance and accomplishment were achieved with God Almighty's grace and then with the support of the wise leadership to continue the path towards achieving the targets of Kingdom's Vision 2030, strengthening confidence in Saudi Arabia's capabilities and potential to compete globally in science and mathematics, and building a creative generation capable of dealing with things scientifically."

He added, “This win was the result of a fruitful and constructive collaboration between King Abdulaziz & his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity and the Ministry of Education, and an embodiment of this partnership, which reflects positively on the Kingdom's community of giftedness and creativity. It provides greater services for the nurture, training, and qualification of gifted students, and creates a stimulating environment for gifted male and female students in public education.

In the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad 2022GMO, the following students:  Mahdi Al-Baik, from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, won the gold medal, Hadi Al-Eithan, from the Al-Ahsa Education Directorate, won the gold medal, Ali Al-Ramadan, from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, won the gold medal, and Muhammad Al-Dubaisi, from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, won the gold medal. 

While the following Students: Abdulelah Al-Taf, from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, won the silver medal, and Moaz Al-Ghamdi, from Makkah Al-Mukarramah Education Directorate, won the silver medal.

In the Fourth Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2022), the following students: Sadiq Abbas Al-Abbad, from the Riyadh Education Directorate, won the gold medal, Lama Abdul Rahman Al-Ahdal, from Jeddah Education Directorate, won the gold medal, and Jawad Bahaa Al-Saif, from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, won the gold medal, while Hussein Jamal Qadah, from Jeddah Education Directorate, won the silver medal.

Dr. Basil Al-Sadhan, Mawhiba Deputy Secretary-General for Gifted Services in King Abdulaziz & his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba" explained that the Saudi teams participating in the Gulf Mathematics and Physics Olympiad were able to raise Saudi Arabia's prize pool to 65 medals including gold, silver and bronze, maintaining by this achievement and a number of medals on the lead over the rest of the Gulf participating countries.

The Deputy Secretary-General added that the nomination process for the members of the two Saudi teams participating in the Gulf Mathematics and Physics Olympiad took place during a training journey launched by King Abdulaziz & his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba" each year. Such journey spans almost three years, as part of Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, during which students participating are qualified by selected distinguished national and global trainers to represent Saudi Arabia in all domestic, regional, and international competitions.

Al-Sadhan added that this participation is part of Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, which is held in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education, which make its students free to attend training camps throughout the year and is one of 20 different programs and initiatives of advanced curricula and enrichment programs in the fields of science, engineering and health that are provided annually by Mawhiba for gifted students, on a journey during which the gifted go through several stages, through which we explore, reinforce, enable and invest in his/her tendencies with our local and international partners. 

In turn, Mr. Badr Mohammed AlMajrathi - Manager of the Competitions Department at the King Abdulaziz & His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", explained that this achievement is an extension of the series of scientific achievements in the international regional competitions in which the Kingdom participates, and the fruit of holistic efforts and the complementary relationship between the Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education and all strategic partners, to contribute to preparing a generation of students to compete globally, represent the Kingdom in international competitions, and achieve achievements, which in turn will be reflected on the Kingdom's position in its competitive indicators, and in the development of the educational system.

AlMajrathi added that the competition this year has been strong among the teams involved, competing to solve atypical, in-depth questions and problems that measure the highest levels of thinking in the fields of algebra, geometry, number theory and compositions through a five-hour test at the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad. In the Gulf Physics Olympiad, students compete by answering three atypical, in-depth questions that measure higher levels of thinking in various fields of physics in two theoretical and practical tests, each of which takes 5 hours. 

The Gulf Mathematics Olympiad and the Gulf Physics Olympiad are periodic competitions for students of member states of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) organized and supervised by the Bureau. It aims to create an environment conducive to raising the scientific competition among students of Member States in the various fields of the competition, to contribute to the enrichment of the curricula, the development of education, the identification of distinguished students, the development of their skills, the enrichment of their experiences, and the expansion of their interest in achieving honorable results in world competitions.

Saudi Arabia participated in the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad with a team of 6 students, namely: Hadi Al-Eithan from the Al-Ahsa Education Directorate, Abdulelah Ammar, Ali Al-Ramadan, Muhammad Al-Dubaisi and Mahdi Al-Baik, all from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, and Moaz Al-Ghamdi, from Makkah Al-Mukarramah Education Directorate.

At the Fourth Gulf Physics Olympiad, the Kingdom was represented by a team of 4 students, namely: Sadiq Al-Abbad from the Riyadh Education Directorate, Jawad Al-Saif from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, Lama Al-Ahdal and Hussein Qadah from Jeddah Education Directorate.​
