The Saudi Science and Engineering team achieved a total of 23 awards at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025, including 14 grand awards. Among these were 3 second-place awards, 5 third-place awards, and 6 fourth-place awards, in addition to 9 special awards.
The Saudi team comprised 40 male and female students who presented distinctive and innovative projects in promising scientific fields at this year’s fair, held from May 10 to 16 in Columbus, Ohio, USA, with participation from over 1,700 students representing 70 countries.
Saudi Arabia, represented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education, has been participating annually in this fair since 2007. With this year’s awards, the country’s cumulative tally at the competition has risen to 183 awards, including 124 grand awards and 59 special awards.
Dr. Khalid Al-Sharif, Acting Secretary-General of Mawhiba and head of the Saudi delegation, affirmed that this achievement is the culmination of the integrated efforts between Mawhiba, the Ministry of Education, and their strategic partners. He emphasized that the fruitful partnership among the entities responsible for nurturing talent and scientific excellence in the Kingdom has effectively contributed to continuous international accomplishments, representing Saudi Arabia with pride befitting its regional and international status. This reflects the strong support and care that the education sector, as well as talent and innovation from the wise leadership.
Dr. Al-Sharif congratulated the winning students, stressing that this achievement is a source of pride for the nation and reflects the promising competencies of Saudi youth who contribute to building a prosperous future in the fields of science and innovation. He also praised their efforts and excellence in presenting unique scientific projects that competed with elite innovators from around the world, expressing his confidence that these national talents will help create a brighter future for the Kingdom in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
Among over 1,700 participants, the following students achieved second place: Maryam Al-Muhaisheh in the field of Energy, and Arij Al-Qarni and Jiwan Shaabi in the field of Environmental Engineering.
Third place was awarded to: Jumana Bilal in Energy, Salman Al-Shahri and Lana Nouri in Translational Medical Sciences, Lamia Al-Nafie in Environmental Engineering, and Fatima Al-Mutabaqani in Plant Sciences.
Fourth place in the Energy was achieved by Hanin Al-Hasan and Imran Al-Turkistani, in addition to Fatima Al-Arfaj and Misk Al-Mutairi in Chemistry, Abeer Al-Yousef in Materials Science, and Ghula Al-Ghamdi in Plant Sciences.
Special awards were granted to Fatima Al-Arfaj in Chemistry; Arij Al-Qarni and Saleh Al-Anqari in Environmental Engineering; Abdulrahman Al-Ghannam in Materials Science; and Sama Bokhamsin in Embedded Systems. Imran Al-Turkistani received two special awards in the Energy field, and likewise, Lana Nouri was honored with two special awards in Translational Medical Sciences.
The "ISEF" exhibition is considered the most important and largest global platform for research and innovative projects by school students. Submissions are evaluated by a distinguished panel of international scientists and experts, providing participants with a unique opportunity to showcase their scientific abilities before a global audience of specialists.
