Five Saudi Mawhiba Students Participate in UNESCO Consultation to Confront Climate Change


 
King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) participated with five of its students in the UNESCO online consultation with young actors in the field of confronting climate change in the Arab region, which was virtually held today Monday, June 22nd, 2020, to shed light on youth work in the field of climate change, together with the most prominent regional and national youth initiatives in this field in selected Arab countries, including the Kingdom.

 
Mawhiba was represented in the UNESCO online consultation by five male and female students:
The talented students Belqis Al-Sharif, Abdulaziz Al-Shahrani, Sarah Al-Ghamdi, Abdullah Al-Senan, and Rozana Khawaja, all of whom have previously participated in local and international competitions, and have achieved achievements at the national and international levels with scientific research and projects related to environmental research.

 
This participation in the UNESCO online consultation aimed at achieving a knowledge product within the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) work strategy on climate change and its operational strategy on youth, and the declaration of ethical principles related to climate change. This knowledge product shall also support the work of the Youth UNESCO Climate Action Network (YoU-CAN).

 
The Mawhiba students team participated in all stages of preparing the knowledge product, starting from discussing the design of the product and passing through discussing the objectives, content, form, and research methods, and ending with expectations of this knowledge product, and how it helps youth and get benefit therefrom, in addition to the support that young people request from governmental and non-governmental institutions, academia, the United Nations, and civil society organizations.

 
The UNESCO online consultation sought to deepen the understanding of youth work in the field of climate change by analyzing youth initiatives, identifying common points and differences, opportunities and challenges, supporting youth work, proposing new youth solutions to confront climate change in the Arab region, together with supporting youth participation in climate-related decision-making.
