Mawhiba Prepares to Launch the Fifth Phase of Ibdaa 2021 with the Participation of 300 Students

King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", in cooperation with the administrations of gifted education in the Kingdom, is preparing to launch the fifth phase of the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity "Ibdaa 2021" for central exhibitions and accompanying training workshops, which is remotely being held this year due to the Corona pandemic, during the period from 29 November to 9 December, 2020.


 

A number of 51293 male and female students from 47 educational departments presented their research projects and innovations on which they worked during the past summer through the electronic platform of the National Olympiad. The scientific committee consisting of 5 distinguished researchers at the Kingdom level verified that the projects adhered to the standards of scientific research ethics. Afterwards, the board of referees consisting of 50 referees holding PhDs and masters from various universities in the Kingdom, its research centers, and public and private institutions, viewed the submitted projects, and the best 300 projects were chosen from among the advanced projects from all the Kingdom's educational departments.


 

In this stage, 300 male and female students who are candidates to participate in the final liquidation of the "Ibdaa 2021" Olympiad will participate among which 140 male and 160 female students, representing 28 educational department from various regions of the Kingdom, under the supervision of a group of distinguished supervisors.


 

The central exhibitions and accompanying training workshops aim at providing students with the necessary tools and skills, to raise the quality of the projects participating in the final liquidation, to apply the controls of scientific ethics in "Ibdaa", to know the standards of arbitration, to enhance communication skills and to present the scientific project.  In addition to nominating the best projects to participate in the Ibdaa Science and Engineering Fair, through focused training activities to review the elements of the scientific project and its presentation skills, in addition to the skills of innovation, scientific research, effective communication and the basics of intellectual property.


 

This stage includes individual interviews with students by members of the scientific committee and the arbitration committee of specialists and experts, to review, evaluate and arbitrate projects and provide scientific support for them, and choose the best 150 projects in 22 scientific fields to move to the sixth phase of the Innovation 2021 competitions, which is related to the final liquidation fair that will be held In Riyadh from 10 to 13 February 2021.


 


 

This is the fifth of the six stages of the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity, the first phase of which began with the participation of 51,293 students, and will conclude with the selection of members of the Kingdom's national team to compete for the Regenern International Exhibition for Science and Engineering (ISEF), which will be held in the United States of America during May 2021.


 

The stages of the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity begin by registering student information, then the phase of training lectures for students and supervisors, and the phase of electronically registering project information and uploading the same to the "Mawhiba" website.


 

Then comes the fourth stage, which includes electronic arbitration of projects by a group of academics and specialists according to specific scientific standards, announcing the names of candidates for central fairs, and uploading creativity models on the website,


 

Afterwards, the fifth phase begins, which includes the organization of central fairs and accompanying training workshops, which are held in three stages, announcing qualified candidates for final liquidation, and updating participants with their project information. Then comes the sixth and final phase for holding a "Mawhiba" Science and Engineering Fair from 10 to 13 February 2021. This will be followed by the qualifying workshops for international participation in the Regenern International Exhibition for Science and Engineering, "ISEF", from 25 to 27 February, and then participation in the "ISEF" exhibition in the United States of America, during the period from 9 to 14 May 2021.​
